What's on this DVD; American Civil War - The Age of The Ironclads "Monitor VS Merrimack" This DVD is a collection of hard to find films on the "US Navy History of the Civil War" We are excited to bring this story about our US Navy. This was known as the "Age Of Ironclads" The United States decided to blockade the South with wooden ships, called "Operation: Anaconda". To break-out of the stranglehold, the South raised the sunken USS Merrimack and converted her into the first functioning Ironclad Warship. Once activated, she immediately sunk the Cumberland, went after the Congress, then retired for the day; to then destroy the rest of the fleet the following morning. Had it not been for a strange new Warship (called the Monitor, that had a new revolutionary concept: the rotating Turret), the Merrimack would have destroyed the rest of the fleet easily. However, that following day the epic battle finished in a draw, and the Navy was never the same since (or any other Navy in the World for that matter). This DVD shows the growth and the change done to the US Navy during 1861 to 1865 including the CSS Hunley (the first functioning US Submarine). Both films showcase very important and epic battles of the Civil War.1st Film; "US Naval History: Part 1". This Film was shows the age of the wooden ship, the blockade and the epic battle of the USS Merrimack vs. the Monitor. Runtime 17:45 Min's 2nd Film; "US Naval History: Part 2". This film deals with the Civil War from 1863 to 1865: the conclusion of the Civil War. This deals with the CSS Hunley (the first functioning Submarine) and the shows the Ironclads finally conquering the Mississippi with Admiral Farragut claiming his epic "Damn the torpedoes...Full Speed AHEAD!!!". Runtime 19:18 Min's3rd Film; "Monitor vs. Merrimack". This is a film just on the Monitor and the Merrimack battle. Nice story of the famous conflict. Runtime 14:27 Min's4th Film: "The Story of The Monitor vs The Merrimack". The actual title of this film is "Hearts In Bondage". It is the actual story of the sinking of the Merrimack and shows the Confederates raising the Merrimack and converting her into the CSS Ironclad. In the meanwhile, John Erickson was battling bone-headed Admirals to launch the revolutionary 2-gun Turret-mounted-Monitor sometimes called "a Cheese box-on-a-raft". Luckily for the North, John Erickson's Monitor was built and had arrived at Hampton Roads in the nick of time. The following day, the 1st battle EVER of 2 Ironclads fought it out for over 4 hours! Although it was considered a Draw, the Monitor saved Operation: Anaconda, making wooden ships become obsolete that day! Thus, "The Age of the Ironclads" had begun. This film has probably the best Movie footage of that epic battle out there. Well-worth seeing!
