Description: Antique WW1 or Just Post Great War Hand made Prosthetic Leg or 'Peg Leg' for a once serving infantryman (or similar) to replace the right leg from just above the knee and down, manufactured in a hand wrought metal frame with a fully fitted tanner made leather brace for the leg stump complete with interior padding and hook and eye fittings with lashing, the upper section to the brace being mounted with a harness for the hip with buckle fittings and the knee joint to the peg leg being ratchet pawed and hinged with an apex lever plate and double spring so that when operated allowing the wearer the ability to bend the lower leg at the knee so as to serve for when eating at a table setting or similar, the lower shaft to the leg is in carved hardwood and mounted with a vulcanised terminal, possibly a later replacement piece from the 1930's, the original would likely have been in hard cured leather but perished from daily use.Measuring 96 cm in total length including hip harness the length from the knee to the terminal is 42 cm.Overall condition is good for age, some attention will be needed as the leather harness is loose to its mount fitting in one area and there is wear to the straps and oxidisation to the metal frame from old age.A Rare museum quality collectible. weight : 3 kilos
