Description: Item #3352 This is a set of 4 pieces (2 pairs) of cut and polished ammonites. The age is from about 146 to 66 million years ago (Cretatious Period), and is from Madagascar. Ammonites are a squid-like animal with tentacles to snatch prey. They could be tiny in size or 3 feet in diameter depending on the age and species. As the animal grew in size, it would add chambers to accommodate its larger size. This is a fossilized ammonite. These ammonites are polished on the front only, but the outside shows most of the original shell. All of the ammonites have very good contrast between the chambers, made of light and dark calcite. This ammonite pairs are perfect with no chips and have a perfect polish. This is the perfect size for jewelry if that is your thing. 2 of the ammonites shows some nice iridescence and the other 2 shows suture marks and a tiny amount of iridescence. NICE SET!! These ammonites are about 1 1/8 inches wide. The set of 4 weighs .9 ounces (25 grams). NOTE: This set is very light in weight and you could add another similar item for little or no extra shipping. USPS has a charge minimum of 4 ounces. I always return any extra shipping!!!
